SVT started the Jr. College way back in 1975 with the aim of introducing young girls to an alternative course of study other than the traditionally accepted courses of pure sciences, arts or commerce. Girls were offered subjects like Textiles and Clothing, Child Development, Home Management, and Food Science and Nutrition in addition to the widely taught subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Sociology. In time we realized that some girls were keen to try out the subjects of Physics and Mathematics at Jr. College level and so we introduced these subjects too in the early 80s.
This practice of adjusting to the changing times has led us to our present subject combinations. Realizing that a home scientist needs to adapt science for the good of the family and society at large, we now offer two basic sciences (Chemistry, Biology) with two humanities (Psychology and Sociology) as optional subject choices for the XI and XII classes. We also have subject combinations of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics for the more scientifically inclined who would like to postpone the decision of opting for Home Science as a career choice to a later time.
Besides academics we also expose our students to a vast array of extra curricular activities conducted within and outside the college. Cultural programmes, excursions,
Sports meets and tournaments are all part of the student experience at SVT.
